Ruling ‘undermines’ DUI case vs. Miss May

A Cook County judge has sided with a Playboy model who maintains that she shouldn’t have been arrested for DUI after police pulled her over for running a red light on the Near North Side earlier this year.

Though prosecutors still can appeal Judge Thomas V. Lyons’ ruling Tuesday, Crystal McCahill’s lawyer said the case against his client is now “severely undermined.”

“She’s delighted,” attorney Michael J. Monaco said of his client, who was Playboy’s Miss May 2009.

The 5-foot-7-inch brunette had a blood-alcohol level more than twice Illinois’ standard for DUI when she drove a 2005 Volkswagen Passat through a red light at Chicago and Wood last Jan. 7, according to police.

The police said McCahill told an officer: “I had three shots at Climax nightclub, where I work.” The police said McCahill “mumbled,” had a “strong odor” of alcohol on her breath and had “red-bloodshot and glassy eyes.”

In court on Tuesday, Monaco didn’t question the reason for the stop. But he disputed police claims that McCahill voluntarily accompanied an officer to the District 13 station. Monaco said she believed she was under arrest — and there wasn’t sufficient reason to make the arrest because the officer had not yet performed a field-sobriety test. Tests were done later at the police station, Monaco said.

“If he’d done them on the scene and she’d failed them, it probably would have been a different result,” Monaco said.

Roderick Drew, a Chicago Police spokesman said: “We believe that the officer acted appropriately and consistently with our policies, and the evidence indicates that she was, in fact, intoxicated.”

McCahill is due back in court next month.

This is my ranking and I’m sticking with it. In my book, Dasha was a poor choice for 50th Anniversary Playmate, as I ranked her below the Shannon twins. The Shannon twins are tied in my book, but since Karissa was July, I’ll give Kristina the higher spot. I think Hope is this year’s best so I gave her the top spot but I don’t think she needs the PMOY title, she already has a lot going on for her. So my personal choice for PMOY is Kelley, I met her in person at GC and she was very nice and personable and I think she would be a good pick. I like Jessica a lot, but I don’t think she’ll get it due to her relation with Playboy as of late. I would be delighted if Kim Phillips or Lindsay Evans gets it, but anyone below that is a bit disappointing.

I think Crystal Harris is the odds on favorite since she is Hef’s bottom bitch, but I think the sleeper choice is Crystal McCahill due to her good relation with Playboy and her mother being a former girlfriend of Hef. But of all the Playmates, other than the twins, I personally dislike Cyrstal McCahill the most, it just seems like she would be the least friendly to meet in person. I could be wrong though.

CHICAGO, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ — Playboy will return to its Chicago roots when it joins top nightlife promoters Global Adrenaline for a New Year’s Eve celebration at the historic Hilton Chicago. The event will be in celebration of Playboy’s January/ February 2010 double issue and will be co-hosted by 10 Playboy Playmates including Miss January 2010 Jamie Edmondson and Miss February 2010 Heather Young.

Playboy’s official New Year’s Eve event will take place along the historic Michigan Avenue, where, fittingly, Playboy opened its first club 50 years ago less than a mile from the hotel in 1960. The event will feature Las Vegas-style gambling benefitting the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Over 5,000 square feet will be devoted to blackjack, craps, poker, and roulette.

International hip hop and reggaeton star Pitbull will headline the event. Also known as Mr. 305, the Miami native has collaborated with a wide array of artists, from Lil Jon, Lil Wayne and Pharrell, to Jennifer Lopez. Count on Pitbull to perform hits such as “Hotel Room Service” and “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho),” all of which charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 this year.

Chicago natives Jump Smokers and DJs Flipside and Tony Arzadon round out the main-room entertainment, while Rock City and Dante the Don will perform in the 10,000-square-foot Playboy VIP Lounge. Expect the Jump Smokers to play their of-the-moment smash “My Flow So Tight (Anti-Breezy)” and tease songs from their upcoming major-label debut.

The Hilton Chicago has played host to a long list of U.S. presidents and has been featured in a number of Hollywood films, most notably “The Fugitive.” Located across the street from Grant Park and featuring 1,544 rooms, the neo-classical hotel will be the perfect place to bring in the New Year.

Tickets for the NYE 2010 event – official website www.NewYears10.com – start at $155 and include four-hour premium open bar, hors d’oeuvres and buffet. Tickets for the Playboy VIP Lounge are $205 and, in addition to everything included in the basic package, also include access to the VIP Lounge, meet-and-greets with 10 Playboy Playmates, super premium bar, and extended casino hours.

Table reservations ranging from $1,000 – $3,000 are also available in the main room and lounge. Room reservations at the hotel for ticket holders start at $159.

Crystal was featured on season 5 of the hit E! series, ‘The Girls Next Door’ as a finalist for the 55th Anniversary Playmate search. Crystal’s mother was a playmate in August of 1968. They are the second mother and daughter Playmate duo in Playboy’s history.

PMOY by public opinion will be a close call between Hope Dworaczyk, Candice Cassidy and Jessica Burciaga. Jessica will probably lose out since she is not on the best of terms with those who matter. Hope sure seems the likely winner at the moment. Candice had the best centerfold by far and this is the most positive factor in her favor among other things.

As for personal favorites, I have said before that while this hasn’t been a great year just like 2008 and has no one stand out Playmate, Jennifer Pershing means just a little more to me than the rest.

I am really waiting for Kelley Brooke Thompson. So far her preview pictures have been very appealing. If her actual layout is as good as that, she could become my stand out for this year but let’s see.

Special mention for Lindsey Gayle Evans who I found very cute and liked her ass a lot.

As for the rest, the Shannon Twins and Crystal Harris do not make me feel like having much to do with them. I wouldn’t even discuss them if they weren’t Playmates. Crystal McCahill was a big disappointment. Kimberly Phillips was not bad at all but nothing about her really managed to reach out to me. As for Dasha Astafieva, initially I really liked her but her charm ended very quickly – still she does look great in some pictures.

Sara Jean Underwood is among Playboy’s Calendar girls announced for its 2010 issue launching in just a few weeks.

Playboy Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends Karissa and Kristina Shannon grace the edition along with some familiar faces, including LALATE’s fav Jessica Burciaga.
