Retrospective Playmate Ranking – 2009
by PML on Dec.01, 2009, under Playboy Mailing List
This is my ranking and I’m sticking with it. In my book, Dasha was a poor choice for 50th Anniversary Playmate, as I ranked her below the Shannon twins. The Shannon twins are tied in my book, but since Karissa was July, I’ll give Kristina the higher spot. I think Hope is this year’s best so I gave her the top spot but I don’t think she needs the PMOY title, she already has a lot going on for her. So my personal choice for PMOY is Kelley, I met her in person at GC and she was very nice and personable and I think she would be a good pick. I like Jessica a lot, but I don’t think she’ll get it due to her relation with Playboy as of late. I would be delighted if Kim Phillips or Lindsay Evans gets it, but anyone below that is a bit disappointing.
I think Crystal Harris is the odds on favorite since she is Hef’s bottom bitch, but I think the sleeper choice is Crystal McCahill due to her good relation with Playboy and her mother being a former girlfriend of Hef. But of all the Playmates, other than the twins, I personally dislike Cyrstal McCahill the most, it just seems like she would be the least friendly to meet in person. I could be wrong though.
1. Hope Dworaczyk
2. Kelley Thompson
3. Jessica Burciaga
4. Kimberly Phillips
5. Lindsey Gayle Evans
6. Candice Cassidy
7. Jennifer Pershing
8. Crystal Harris
9. Crystal McCahill
10. Kristina Shannon
11. Karissa Shannon
12. Dasha Astafieva

For the first not voting Blonde for P.O.Y
by PML on Oct.14, 2009, under Playboy Mailing List
PMOY by public opinion will be a close call between Hope Dworaczyk, Candice Cassidy and Jessica Burciaga. Jessica will probably lose out since she is not on the best of terms with those who matter. Hope sure seems the likely winner at the moment. Candice had the best centerfold by far and this is the most positive factor in her favor among other things.
As for personal favorites, I have said before that while this hasn’t been a great year just like 2008 and has no one stand out Playmate, Jennifer Pershing means just a little more to me than the rest.
I am really waiting for Kelley Brooke Thompson. So far her preview pictures have been very appealing. If her actual layout is as good as that, she could become my stand out for this year but let’s see.
Special mention for Lindsey Gayle Evans who I found very cute and liked her ass a lot.
As for the rest, the Shannon Twins and Crystal Harris do not make me feel like having much to do with them. I wouldn’t even discuss them if they weren’t Playmates. Crystal McCahill was a big disappointment. Kimberly Phillips was not bad at all but nothing about her really managed to reach out to me. As for Dasha Astafieva, initially I really liked her but her charm ended very quickly – still she does look great in some pictures.

2010 Playmate calendar: a disappointment
by PML on Sep.28, 2009, under Playboy Mailing List
I just bought a copy of the 2010 Playmate calendar today, and I have
to say I am quite disappointed over it. Of the 12 photos, only 1
appears to have been taken exclusively for the calendar; the others
are all outtakes from well-known pictorials or recycled shots that
have already been published.
In the “already published” category is Sara Jean Underwood, whose May
calendar picture is directly from her PMOY pictorial in the May 2007
issue. Also, Kelly Carrington’s September photo was already published
in her Oct 2008 magazine pictorial.
While Sasckya Porto’s February picture hasn’t been published before,
it is an almost identical pose to her 2009 calendar shot, and it is
also a very close shot to one in her Cyber Club Playmate portfolio –
an outtake from her PM pictorial. It is too soon after the 2009
calendar shot to feature this almost-identical pose.
Candice Cassidy gets a Cyber Club portfolio shot for her calendar
page, so it isn’t a new photo, either. She looks stunning in it, but
I really wanted a new, unpublished photo.
Several other photos are outtakes from Playmate pictorials. Dasha
Astafieva, Kayla Collins, Hope Dworaczyk, Grace Kim and the Shannon
Twins fit into this category. Some of them have nearly identical
poses already published in the Cyber Club.
Beautiful as Kayla Collins is, I think the photo chosen of her is
rather weak in terms of body angle. They should have chosen a better
photo for a calendar.
Crystal McCahill gets an outtake from her 50th Anniversary Playmate
test that isn’t particularly flattering.
The only photo obviously not an outtake or reprint is Ida Ljungqvist’s
(January) — and oddly this photo looks like it was intended for
December rather than January due to the gifts in the setting.
Jessica Burciaga gets a decent bedroom shot; at least we haven’t seen
the exact setting before.
Gone are the days when the calendars were exclusive photos done
explicitly for the calendar. I am very well aware of how good many of
the calendar shots were in the past due to my current project of
scanning them all. I started with 1958 and have completed all through
1993 so far, and there are some amazing images in there. Many of them
were obviously very deliberately set up and posed to make strong,
stunning images for the calendar. The current one looks thrown
together as an afterthought in comparison. I am very disappointed.
I expect that come 2010 I will be hanging up past calendars rather
than the current relatively weak one most months.

Glamourcon 47 in Chicago
by PML on Aug.19, 2009, under Playboy Mailing List
This was my 2nd GC. I went to Chicago in August 2005. I was ‘smarter’ in spending my money this time. If it was $10 a photo, I only took one with them and if it was $5, I took one of them alone also. I also made sure to ask prices every time before they signed something like 8 x 10′s or 8 x 12′s.
I was kind of ‘bummed’ that no-shows included playmates Tiffany Taylor, Jessica Burciaga, Heather Rene Smith, Christi Shake, Alison Waite, Audra Lynn, and also non-Playmates, Taylor Wane, Jillian Beyor (removed from the GC list very close to the show).
Did anyone here see Sondra Theodore? I missed seeing her though Cathy St. George told me on Sunday she was there earlier.
Of the 13 women I met, I was most impressed overall (not just looks) with Ida Ljungvist, Kayla Collins, Crystal McCahill, and Jelena Jensen.
I met a few I had never heard of before, Jasmine Mai (does she like to talk about ‘saving the cats’ or what? LOL) and also a new gorgeous brunette model called Kneely Morgan.
I also enjoyed spending time with Spencer Scott, Summer Altice, Michelle McLaughlin, Carlotta Champagne, Valerie Mason, and Melissa Jean.
If at least half of the 8 no-shows had gone to the show, I would have enjoyed this one more than 4 years ago but not quite.
Still, it was a very enjoyable time and thanks to those GC fans who took pictures of me with the models with my camera.

GC
June issue and PMOY
by PML on May.24, 2009, under Playboy Mailing List
PMOY 2010 should make a few things clear to us. If it’s Hope, Candice or Jessica, then quite clearly the public choice is being respected. If it’s the Shannon Twins, then all that matters is who is involved with Hef. Even if its Dasha it will be a bit suspicious considering the kind of things they have done for each other although Dasha being the anniversary PM perhaps has less chance of being PMOY. Crystal doesn’t have much chance except if they really want to honor the fact that she is a Playmate daughter. However Simone Eden was not given that benefit and thus this seems unlikely. In fact Donna Perry is actually the granddaughter of Joan Staley and she received no such benefit either. As for Jennifer, it seems her popularity is in a niche circle only that definitely includes me but is not enough to make her PMOY. Comments can be made on the remaining only after they are revealed – maybe Crystal Harris will want her place just like the Shannon Twins. Others who ha! ve been mentioned in this group as possible Playmates include Kelley Brooke Thompson, Latoya Jordan and Melany Lorenzo. Also Karen Velez’s daughter Nikki Majors could be considered. The mother was just too good but I haven’t seen the daughter.
BTW, this idea of never making the anniversary Playmate a PMOY just does not cut any ice with me. Is it that the same girl cannot be given two big honors no matter how good she is? Besides they are different kinds of honors. I wonder if Playboy has ever even openly hinted this. Candy Loving didn’t become PMOY but at least she had an equally popular Dorothy Stratten to compete with. However the one that comes to my mind most is Anna Mare Goddard. Did she not win it because she was the anniversary Playmate or because she was Dutch instead of being American since other than that she is an all time great Playmate?

Miss May’s CC pictorial
by PML on May.09, 2009, under Playboy Mailing List
I have to say it is truly refreshing to see a pictorial shot
completely in the great outdoors/actual locations for a change! Even
when parts of it was shot at the Mansion pool! Yes, this desert scene
has been used many times in recent years, but I just enjoy the sight
of a PM completely free from the indoor sets…this used to the norm
and not the exception. My only other gripe is that I wish they had
chosen Hope to do the outdoors, her pictorial was just uninspiring…

Crystal McCahill
by PML on Apr.26, 2009, under Playboy Mailing List
I noticed Crystal on the GND, and she was my personal favorite of the
finalists they were testing. I was really looking forward to her issue,
which I bought the other day.
Boy, was I disappointed. Not with Crystal – I still think she’s a very
pretty woman with a great body. But her layout – such simple, plain
poses and unimaginative backgrounds. What has happened to Playboy? Are all centerfold layouts this bland now? I think Crystal deserved better.
